Trial before pilate

Pilate asked the crowd whether they wanted Barabbas or Jesus set free. The chief priest persuaded the crowd to ask Pilate to set Barabbas free and have Jesus put to death. They shouted for Pilate to crucify him. Now that the Jewish leaders have found Jesus guilty of a crime deserving the death sentence, they have to take him to the Roman Governor, Pontius Pilate.

When Jesus was brought before him, Pilate went straight to the heart of the charges. After a pause, Jesus answered. Do I look like a king of the Jews? I am not a Jew. And by the end of the first round of questions Pilate was getting a queasy feeling about Jesus. Pilate felt that he knew Jesus well enough so as not to believe that Jesus was a terrorist or revolutionary.

Yet Pilate was determined to use this situation to his advantage, as any shrewd politician would. He came from the Judean town of Arimathea, and he himself was waiting for the kingdom of God. BB But they rested on the Sabbath in obedience to the commandment.
